Frequently Asked Questions
In an effort to ensure the best experience for all participants, we ask that runners comply with standard race etiquette. This includes, lining up at the starting line according to expected race pace, giving right of way to faster runners along the course, and following guidelines given by race officials and volunteers (race crew members).
As with any social setting, there are many subtle details included in proper etiquette. However, if you abstain from cutting sharply in front of a competitor, refrain from abruptly stopping in the middle of the course to tie your shoe, remember not to hinder others from acquiring water, and are aware of your basic social cues, you will be sure to enjoy yourself and make new friends.
Barring uncontrollable or extenuating circumstances, our awards ceremony will begin ten minutes after the last participant finishes the last race. All awards will be given based on gun time. Chip time is only for your personal enjoyment and record keeping.
You can use your time from the 5K race as a race qualifier (for events like the Peachtree Road Race) because the race course is USA Track and Field certified for length accuracy.
If you want to learn more about the course measuring process, read Racing The Line by DC Rainmaker.
All participants must submit a signed Release & Indemnity Agreement to receive your runner packet and dri-fit shirt. If you registered online and submitted the Release and Indemnity Agreement, then you do not need to bring a paper copy.
If you are under the age of 19, you must bring a copy of the Release & Indemnity Agreement signed by a parent or guardian to pick up your runner packet.
In order to pick up another participant's packet, you must bring either a printed copy or email on a mobile device of their registration confirmation AND a signed copy of the Release & Indemnity Agreement if it was not signed during online registration. No exceptions.
Here's how it works. If you register by the end of Monday before the race, we guarantee you will get a printed shirt (with event information and sponsor logos on the back) in the size you requested. If you register after Monday, we cannot guarantee that you will get a printed shirt or the size you requested.
Pick up your shirt at early packet pickup or at runner check-in on race day. No shirts or runner bags will be mailed out before or after the race.
Weather, Safety, and Cancellation Policy
Our races are held despite rain, wind, sleet, or heat. However, Connect Race does retain the right to cancel, shorten, or alter any event or course due to weather, other acts of God, terrorism, or for any other reasons within or without the control of Connect Race. All entry fees are non-refundable, and may not be deferred toward a future event.
Connect Race, in conjunction with the local municipality, reserves the right to delay an event start for any reason, including weather. Typically we will delay up to 30 minutes prior to start if there is lightning. It is unlikely that we will delay for heat, rain, or snow.
Connect Race may alter a published course at any time and for any reason, including, but not limited to, road conditions, runner safety, and local municipality requirements. Any alterations made to the course may negate the USATF certification.
In the event of extreme weather conditions, Connect Race reserves the right to cancel the race or run it as an untimed fun run without advance notice and as advised by the Police and Fire/EMS Departments. If this should be necessary: prizes will be converted to random prizes. No entry fee refunds will be made. The final decision regarding the fate of the race will be made between 30 minutes to an hour prior to the scheduled start of the race and will be announced over the race public address system.
We do not have rain dates for events.
Like many in the running community, we believe a fit family is a happy family and allow strollers in our races as long as the course and/or local government allows. However, we do ask that participants with strollers start in the back, refrain from weaving through packs of runners, and yield the right of way to other runners.
We also ask that you not provide a timing chip for your stroller-bound child. We include only official participants who have run the entire course in our results and awards system. Contacting the race director and letting him or her know that your child was inadvertently entered in the results can save other goal-oriented children many tears.
While we love pets, we ask that you refrain from inviting them onto our race courses if said race is farther than 5K or has an excess of 500 registrants. We also ask that any spectating dogs or pets be kept on 5 foot non-retractable leashes.
By registering for our events, you agree to the use of your name and photograph in broadcasts, newspapers, brochures, and other media without compensation. Also, we often provide complimentary download of photos and videos taken at our events. These photos are the property of Connect Race and may not be used for non-personal use without our express written consent.
Our hope is to never enforce time limits on our races. However, certain municipalities have regulations that must be followed, and we will post this information on the respective event site when necessary. In the most stringent cases, participants will be required to travel at a pace of 16 minutes per mile (50 minutes for a 5K and 1hr 40 minutes for a 10K).
All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. The only exception is for Active Military members with deployment orders. See Active Military Exemption below.
Active Military Exemption
Prior to race day, we will allow Active Military members with deployment orders to defer registration to a future Connect Race event. We will not provide a refund for the difference in pricing, and registrants are also responsible for any price increases or fees.
Connect Race is a non-profit 501-c3. Your entry fees cover the expenses of the event and you receive tangible/non-tangible goods in exchange for your registration fee which include a safe and quality event, certified course, timing, scoring, post-race food, and entertainment. Typically, only donations above the registration fees that are made directly to the charity are eligible for tax deductions; however, you should confer with your tax professional if you have further questions.
